Georgia Renaissance Festival at Fairburn

by Bob Jones on Apr.28, 2009, under Arts & Entertainment

Ever wonder how is it like to live during the Renaissance time? Have you asked yourself how the court people and the townsfolk behave like, dress like, talk like and have fun like? If you’re looking for a new experience and a new environment this spring then the Georgia Renaissance Festival is the event for you. This is truly a different event for you as you are transformed to yesteryears of fine Renaissance living. Read on to know more about what this event has to offer.

On a personal note, I am a huge fan of Medieval and Middle Ages themed films. The story of King Arthur and the Knights of the round temple always fascinate me. I love the refinement of courtesans, the formal dialect of kings and queens, the lavish wardrobes and the huge towering castles. I also admire their culture and the way the gentlemen regard the princesses and women of their choice. The architecture, all in gothic styled towers and minarets and the rose chapel stained glass windows are very mesmerizing indeed.

The Renaissance Festival brings to life the Renaissance times by actors and participants donning their Renaissance costumes. They bring back the ancient merriment complete with wardrobes and themed style surroundings. A court jester is commissioned for the kids and adults’ enjoyments. A quick note of history however tells us that jesters or jokers are once an important part of a royal court. Their services are hired for entertaining the royals’ guests. They are also called as “fools with a license”.

The sport of Joust also graces the event of the festival as it brings to life the noble sport during those times. The Royal Lipizzan Stallions will continue to grace the event through their simultaneous performance show under the “All the Kings’ Horses” category. Wenches and belles will serenade you with their ancient folk songs. There are also fun and challenging games for the kids such as the “Rapunzel’s Hair braiding class”.

I can’t wait to get to The Georgia Renaissance Festival but first I think I must watch my old copy of “King Arthur” once again.

Film and Craft Festivals at Massachusetts

by Bob Jones on Mar.19, 2009, under Arts & Entertainment

Massachusetts is the home of the Indie films. Of all the States, we are the ones most receptive of the talents of those that are far from fame. Indeed, we recognize that the efforts of those not under the spotlight tend to equal or even outmatch that of many supposed Blockbusters.

Alongside the prevalence of Indie Films in the State is the growing popularity of craft shows in the film festivals themselves. There’s just something about their artistry of these films that attracts likewise artistic people and their crafts. Certainly, the two mediums have many things in common.

These types of films attract crowds with a taste for the unusual. If you are one of these people, then I guarantee that you will find something to like in the artistry of those crafts as well. As an added bonus, you can talk to the craftsperson that made it more often than not; they have a tendency to man the booths themselves. By hearing their insights on their work, you will appreciate the item even more.

So then, the question is this: As it’s not mainstream, how do you know exactly when will there be an Indie Film Festival? Indie Films, after all, can be erratic, and the exact schedules can be difficult to figure out. While the films themselves are erratic, however, the festivals in which they will be held are not. So when looking for these shows, look towards the craft fairs that accompany them. Their schedules are listed on the Internet far earlier than information on the film festival; but they are held at the same time anyway.

Most of these craft shows, however, will have no film festival attached to them. That is okay. Odds are, if you go to a normal craft show, then the craftspeople minding the booths will have an idea on when the next one will take place. So then, you will have a good idea of when the next one will be taking place.

A Unique Exhibit: Guns and Chandeliers

by Bob Jones on Mar.18, 2009, under Arts & Entertainment

Toys are a big part of a persons childhood. Some adults keep their toys in memory of a happy and playful childhood and have their own kids play with it. But what if there are toys that actually connote violence and death? Are they still considered as toys?

Chandeliers are lighting fixtures that are commonly seen in big houses that evokes richness and elegance. The high electricity cost of a chandelier owning to its numerous little bulbs is what makes it affordable only to the upper society. Chandeliers bring about warmth and elegance in a space. It connotes a rich and luxurious lifestyle. Chandeliers can come off as glass, plastic, bronze or metallic. The intricate design on a chandelier makes it a pricey commodity in relation to other lighting fixtures.

In the exhibit entitled: Guns and Chandeliers in Gallery Imperato Baltimore, Maryland two prolific painters show off their works of art using these concepts. The theme Guns will feature a rising awareness whether or not toy guns are allowable to be played by kids or not. Different images depicting kids playing with plastic guns will be displayed in the gallery. The images will evoke the long standing issues of guns being a symbol of war and demise and as a harmless toy being played with by kids.

The theme Chandeliers will focus different images of beautiful and elegant chandeliers in different painting styles and strokes. The artist will effectively convey the feeling of elegance and refinement through her paintings. The still life images reportedly look very real that one should resist the urge to touch it. Through these paintings one is reminded of the huge social barrier between the rich and the poor.

The exhibit will portray a contrast between the two concepts. One concept talks about robust play and the onset of doom, the other of refined elegance and simplicity. Enthusiasts and art aficionados really looks in awe at these pieces of art that are very well done while awakening and silently tackling deep social significances within.
