by Miles Stoppard on Nov.21, 2009, under Music
MP3 players are the latest addition in music players. The successor of the records, 8-track and cassette tapes as well as cds, mp3 players have become the most popular as they are the handiest of the group and allow the most control for the users. Depending on the built in memory and the type of player, users can carry up to thousands of files, not even limited to just music but also of videos and photos and other files.
MP3 came from the term MPEG Audio Layer III, MPEG for Moving Picture Experts Group. An MP3 player and software is a device that compresses music and videos to smaller sizes. Although the quality of the music coming from MP3 players are as good as that of a CD, skipping sometimes happen because of data being lost due to its compression. This does not bother music lovers however since the compression makes it faster to transfer files to other devices such as MP3 capable handsets and PC. It is even easier to upload or download music from the internet with an MP3 player. MP3 players can of course exchange data to each other, making it a very portable data storage device.
There a few types of MP3 players depending on how many Gigs it packs and how much you have to pay for it. Flash memory players are the smallest in size and it packs 8GB of music and videos. They also provide the longest running time -a maximum of 28 hours of music. Another type of MP3 player use hard drives that packs up to 80 GB! A mini version is also available. These two however have moving segments, which skip from time to time. Compared to the flash drives, hard drive based MP3 players consume more energy with an average of 20 hours of playtime for audio and a mere 6 hours for your video files. The third one is playing music in CDs or minidisc much cheaper than the other two but much larger in terms of physical size. However, the minidisc skips a lot which is a drag. The fourth type, called hybrid players are MP3 players integrated into handsets to sunglasses.
Mp3 players allow the user to pick their own selection of songs to play without having to buy the entire album. Songs for mp3 players can be found in a variety of places, from ripping cds using software, downloading from various sites or even recording straight from cds or radio stations without the need of a computer. Some mp3 players also feature voice recording, which is also a source of audio.
Mp3 players have become a market by themselves. Accessorizing the player has become as important as selecting the mp3 players. Several options include items that allow for more convenient carrying. Similar to other electronics, additional power supplies are also available for added playing time. Portable stereo systems were also devised for added volume during playback.
With MP3 players, it is now so easy for users to have hearing problems due to the volumes they select when listen to MP3 players.
