Prince Jonah Khi Kalanianaole of HawaiI was born on March 26, 1871 and dies on January 1, 1922. He was the reigning prince when Hawaii was overthrown by the American residents in 1893. In the Hawaiian nobility in the late nineteenth century Kalanianaole was considered as one of the important members.
After he was thrown into prison around 1895 for his participation of rebellion against the Republic of Hawaii, he and his wife traveled around Europe and Africa. He was treated as a visiting royal on these travels. After a few years he returned from his self-imposed exile.
Prince Jonah Khi Kalanianaole joined the Democratic Party when he returned to Hawaii.
