The most popular style of our time is the ‘free verse’ style. This form originated in the late 19th century, with Walt Whitman being credited for it. Before this form was introduced, poetry was restricted to certain form.

Formal poetry generally follows a set pattern, in rhyme and meter. We commonly place a letter at the end of the last word in each line. Analyzing these patterns is called scansion.

For example if the first two line rhyme with each other, their letters would be AA. If the second set of lines rhyme with each other the rhyme pattern would be AABB. If the fifth line doesn’t rhyme a C would be introduced and so on.

Meter is the number of beats in each line. The beat most commonly used is “Iambic pentameter’. Individual beats consist of a short and strong pulse. Words with this beat are arrest, domain, forsooth, etc. The second syllable is accented.

OK, enough rules and on to the fun stuff. What do you start with when you tell stories or write letters? Do you begin with something you overheard? Witnessed? Read About? Start with what you are comfortable with, that’s the best way to start.

What type of poem did you have in mind? A Story? A comment? Or could it be a character study? Go through some examples to help get you started off on the right foot. It is common to get what is called “writer’s block”. If this happens, take a break, or come back to it the next day. If your out and something comes to you, jot it down.

Work on your poem for many weeks and take the last line of one of your poem and carry on from there, ignoring entirely what you drafted before. You will be surprised at what you are able to accomplish. Get writing!

The common fact scientists agreed on was that confidence is the most important ingredient in this equation of friendship – it satisfies the need of humans to share their secrets – but there is one big condition: not being betrayed. Once that occurs, wounds heal very hard but in most cases never heal. In the end,we can only conclude that scientists generally agreed on common sense facts – so a the theories about friendship are still very vague and far from offering the right scientific answers.

Politics has its own take on the subject, as politicians use the word “friendship” in speeches as a powerful word that works with emotions. Humans are very receptive to this word at their subconscious level, which only means more power for the one who uses it. For example, it has even been used to define relations between states, which eroded its meaning in a way.

Since love transforms itself into a beautiful friendship in the end, we could conclude that it’s probably the best human emotion there is – but that would be trying to put it into theory again. The ones who felt it(and I’m sure anyone felt it at least once) know its sweet taste as they also know the bitter sweet of the betrayal. They’re both part of our lives and they’re here to stay.

In the end, we can never tell if this or love is the greatest human emotion; anyone felt it at least once, and you must know its importance; as you also must know the sour taste of betrayal. But these are both parts of life as we know it, and when we draw the line we notice that the world is interconnected through this wonderful emotion.

Since I’m both a writing instructor and a writing coach, people are always asking me, “What’s the difference between a writing instructor and a writing coach? ” Here’s what I tell them. A writing instructor is someone who teaches a mortal (or persons) HOW to write.

Generally, a writing instructor or teacher is needed when someone wants to learn the craft of writing in one genre or another. A writing coach can also teach the mechanics, or the “how-to” of writing, from time to time. A writing instructor can teach various types of writing such as technical writing, writing for children, resume writing, writing screenplays, etc.

But generally, a writing coach works with a mortal (or persons) who know the mechanics of the type of writing he wants to write, but he has trouble staying on track. The writing coach’s client needs help with specific strategies to develop a focus for his writing (and perhaps even for his writing career) and then comes to the coach seeking additional help maintaining that focus.

Both writing instructors and writing coaches can help motivate the writing student or client. But a writing instructor develops the focus for the instruction he or she is presenting to the student(s), while, with a writing coach, the client is directly or indirectly responsible for setting the focus of apiece coaching session.

If you know the kind of writing you would like to do, but you don’t have the skills, education, and training required for this type of writing, then you probably need a writing teacher or instructor.

On the other hand, if you HAVE taken courses, workshops, and other training and are skilled at the type of writing you wish to pursue, yet you can’t seem to stay motivated or focused long enough to complete that book you’ve always wanted to write, or you can’t figure out how to use your skills to develop a full-time writing career, then you probably need a coach.
