How Ballet Has Evolved And How It Can Help You

by Svetlana Marintcheva on Dec.15, 2009, under Hobbies

Ballet is one of the oldest forms of dancing. It began in the time of the Renaissance in Italy. Later it was more fully developed in France. Modern ballet owes its present form to the Ballet de Cour.

Grace and beauty are still the hallmark of ballet, in spite of the fact that the dance form has gone through so many changes. Ballet is a difficult style of dance to perfect. Due to this fact it can take years of self dedication and practice to become a skilled ballerina. However, this is not to say that average people cannot learn this form of dance. Ballet is not about instant gratification, you will need to start at the beginning and progress by learning.

When you decide to start to study ballet there are a number of ways that you can go about it. Of course there are many ballet fitness videos for you to use in your own home. These may be a good way to try out ballet to see if you really are interested in pursuing the study of ballet. Additionally, there are group ballet classes. These are perhaps a good choice for those who are really wanting to get a taste of ballet dancing. Here you may not pay as much money as you would for a private class, but you could still get some one on one instruction.

Having the right attire is a part of preparing yourself for ballet classes. The right shoes are very important. There are a number of materials that are used for ballet slippers. Your shoes should fit closely to the foot and be comfortable. They should not be too loose or too tight. Clothes should also allow you to move but at the same time not be too loose. They should allow your instructor to see your body lines when you dance.

As you start dancing you may be surprised about the benefits that you start to experience. Some of the physical benefits that you could achieve are weight loss, increased muscle tone, better flexibility, and better stamina. All of these are due to the fact that ballet dancing is a workout. A dancer is going to be stretching and challenging their body, but throughout the time that any dancer studies ballet their body will begin to adapt to the challenges.

Ballet is not just about physical improvement. It can sometimes be helpful emotionally too. Dance can give you some of these emotional advantages by giving you the opportunity to express yourself in a unique way. Emotions can be released through body movement, these emotional freedoms can also act as a great stress reliever. Confidence can be boosted as well through ballet. When you study how to move and express yourself through movement, you just may feel more confident about yourself.

Svetlana Marintcheva of Adagio Ballet takes pride in offering dance instruction and provides more information on her website about some options.

Career Options Available: Performing Art Form Of Dance

by Assistant Editor on Sep.16, 2009, under Arts & Entertainment

At one point in history, medieval times to be exact, if you were not knowledgeable or versed in one form or other of dance, whether traditional or classical, it was said that you weren’t born under a shining star. That expression alone, that a star determined your ability to dance, shows how big of a part it played in the cultural heritage of many civilizations. It also covered important aspects of society, such as traditional, social and ethical.

Dancing can be just about anything, ranging from jumping in a rhythmic style along with the beat of a bongo, rhythmically shaking a spear to display emotions or just throwing your hands about in the air and letting the world know that you just are happy to dance! You can also choose to dance with your partner through the night or dance on home all on your own.

Throughout time, many dance forms have been developed. This could be an uninterrupted dance form styles, like is the case with classical types including the waltz or ballet. However, nowadays there are also modern or relatively new dance forms, such as hip hop, jazz, Charleston or break dancing. Newer dance forms may have had their origins in classical dances, but have developed in their own unique way. The point is to use your body to show creativity and flexibility. By doing so you let the world know that you understand rhythm and you can also express your feelings.

For those that love dancing, there are fortunately many career paths available. You can choose to train other dancers in styles such as Highland Dance, waltz or tango and get them ready for upcoming dance form specific competitions. These competitions focus on just one type of dance style and therefore you know what you’re getting into. If you feel capable of training a group of dancers to perform something like a Highland Fling, then go and do so.

One of the most important careers in the field of dance is choreography. It is hard for anyone to imagine a musical performance not being choreographed. Take the famous musical play Cats as an example. Although the Cats may know how, when and what to sing, without choreography they would not know how and where to place hands and feet. A choreographer must know about all aspects of dance. Otherwise, the choreographer would not understand basic things and wouldn’t be able to provide the performers with valuable tips to improve their performance. This could be, for example, instructing a singer to raise an arm up in the air so that the lungs, chest and diaphragm have more room. This expansion allows a singer to hit the famous high C note. If you feel comfortable with the idea of coordinating all aspects of a performance, including dance, song and rhythm then seriously consider becoming a choreographer.

Ballroom dancing is another career option open for a performing artist. You can go all around the world taking part in ballroom competitions, and winning prizes. Professional performers can also take part in Latin dance competitions and other traditional competitions. You might also want to go in for teaching dance, or become a dancing sport coach. You may teach Pilates and yoga or become a hobby class teacher.

Online Music Lessons: Be Prepared For Any Musical Situation

by Clifton Clark on Sep.12, 2009, under Music

If you are willing to begin to take music lessons, you have a lot of instruments to choose. It all depends on your preference and budget. There are several ways to learn, also. You can go to take lessons one to one with a teacher with a regular basis. Or you just can take them online. In this article you’ll find a brief compare between the different ways of taking lessons.

There is another way to learn: by books. The problem of learning with books is that you don’t hear the notes as they are written. So you’d have to imagine how they would sound like. Ok, you can reproduce them in your instrument, but what if you don’t know how to do it? If you’re a beginner, you’ll have a hard time playing written notes.

But that can be dangerous for one main reason: all the sites that are available are not the same source. This means that you may get stuck because you cannot find what’s next on the site that you were previously. And that is a negative aspect of online music lessons; because you can skip really important topics just because you’re not an experienced player

Before you start to take online music lessons, you must know what you are looking for. This may sound confusing, but you have to ask yourself what style you want to focus on your instrument, how many time are you willing to practice and if you want to be a pro or just trying a new hobby. Put everything in order before you make a decision.

If you have troubles going through a lesson, if you take private instruction, you’d have to go again and pay for something that has already been taught to you. With online lessons, you can take the same lesson over and over, until you got it. This is a huge advantage because you get to learn at your own pace.

Online sites often offer money – back guarantee after 30 or 60 days. That is recurring, because it means that the creators of the course are confident about their product. They know that you are going to learn, and they put their work as their backup. The best for you is to choose a course that has a money guarantee, because maybe you have chosen a course that may not suit all your musical needs.

An easy way of tracking your progress -and be aware of it- is to record your practice sessions, if not all, at least one per month. Do not listen to them until the end of the month, in that way you can get surprised on how much you have improved. Also, it will help you to correct other important stuff about your playing such as sound or tone. Each little thing that you can investigate on is a really good help for your development as a musician

For a great site offering high level and reliable courses, go to EasyMusicLessons.com, there you will find the best online music lessons. And they have the lowest prices in the market!!

Ballet is Art

by Sarah Wilkiamson on Jul.12, 2009, under Arts & Entertainment

Ballet is not only a form of dance, it is an art. Ballet dance is definitely different from the other forms of dance. Ballet dancing is graceful, elegant and beautiful. The pronunciation of the word ballet is “ballay” and the “t” is silent. The word “ballet” means to dance. Ballet is highly technical and it even has its own vocabulary. Ballet is taught throughout the world in ballet schools.

As with many other dance forms, ballet is choreographed rather than danced free. These choreographed routines are known as ballets and encompass not only dancing skills but also acting, musicality and mime. Although some of the music may be vocal, most ballets are performed to classical music.

Renaissance Italy was where ballet dancing first began but it would be France who would take the original dance style and create an entire culture from it. King Louis XIV was instrumental in this, and the world’s first ballet school opened in France in 1661. It’s the French roots that are the reason for most of the ballet vocabulary that’s still used today being. Originally only men were ballet dancers but in 1681 women were also allowed to join in.

Ballet dancers were multi-performers. They didn’t just dance, but they would also recite poetry and sing songs that they may have wrote themselves. Modern ballet contains the dance steps that were created in those early years, and most of these steps still have their French names.

Modern ballet centralizes around 5 basic positions, and this too dates back to Seventeenth century France when a choreographer called Pierre Beauchamp created them. Mastering these basic positions is pivotal to developing the balance and posture required to become a good ballet dancer.

Ballet has become mainstream in countries like Russia, Denmark, France and the United States. Ballet is a worldwide phenomenon. Professional ballet schools are taught in every continent in the world. New York has become the mecca of ballet dancing and it is considered the best on the globe.

Female ballet dancers are known as “ballerinas”. Ballerinas perform dance movements that have to be executed with the use of their toes. This form of dancing is called “en pointe”. A ballerina has to be 12 years of age before she can begin dancing en pointe. Ballerinas wear pointe shoes. Pointe shoes are cushioned with lambs wool or a foam pad. These shoes look like slippers. Ribbons are tied around the ankles and feet, so the shoes can be usable. The shoes are stiff and they have to be cushioned with soft fabric so the dancers do not injure themselves while performing.

At one time a ballet costume was a dress that went down to the ankle. Today’s female ballet dancers wear tutus which give the illusion that the ballerina is floating across the stage.

Danseurs are male ballet dancers and they never dance ‘En Pointe’. As they are usually required to lift a ballerina during the ballets, danseurs have to have a great level of physical fitness.

If you’ve never seen a ballet, then try to get tickets to attend one of the top ballet companies when they perform near you. It’s an experience you’ll never forget. You’ll have to act fast though because those tickets tend to sell out fast!
